13 Leadership Behaviours For Managing Change

Change & Uncertainty, Employee Engagement, Leadership TrackBack URL

1. Be more visible

- Now is not the time to go missing

2. Be more transparent

- i.e. the complete opposite to what most leaders do in changing times

3. Be more communicative (a lot more)

- If you’re not communicating, then the rumour mill will go into overdrive

4. Be more sensitive

- Remember: you’re leading people not machines

5. Be more available

- People need more access to you during change so stop hiding in your office or in pointless meetings

6. Be more nimble

- You need to be light on your feet to adjust to a changing environment

7. Be more courageous

- It’s time to lead by example and step outside your comfort zone

8. Be more selfish

- You can’t help others if you’re not looking after your own needs

9.  Be more generous

- In sharing your time, praise, ideas and contacts

10. Be more open to contradictions

- Like this list, managing change is full of contradictions

11. Be more inspirational

- To handle change, your people don’t need more compensation – they need more inspiration

12. Be more authentic

- Open, honest and sincere leadership is what will gain the trust and committment of your people right. Without their committment, you’re in trouble

13. Be more fun

- Whilst uncomfortable, you’re not dealing with a life or death situation – so keep some perspective on things. Lighten up.
