“Sital, I’m applying for roles but employers are being so fussy in the current market – if I haven’t the exact experience they’re looking for, they reject me. Doing the same thing over and over again with the same rejections over and over again is so frustrating. What else can I do?”
“Sital, I’m trying to make a career change into a new area but can’t secure interviews. I know I have the relevant skills and would do a great job, but they keep rejecting me because I’ve not got the experience. But how can I get the experience if they don’t give me a chance?!! Any ideas on a better approach?”
“Sital, I keep getting rejected because I haven’t the right academic record. But I’ve more practical experience than all the people I’m competing against – why can’t they see beyond my education when I can bring relevant experience?”
“Sital, I’m tring to make a change internally to a new function, but they won’t consider me because I haven’t the experience. But I know I’ve got the skills and would be much better than the people currently in those roles! What should I do?”

They say we often teach the things we need to learn the most. I’m not sure who ‘they’ are but I think they’re right.
I’ve just got off the phone from delivering a teleseminar about how to find a job. Whilst, on the whole, it went well – my self critical mind went into over drive straight after I finished.
Immediately after the call, I started focussing on all the things that didn’t go well (we had some technical problems with the phone line at the start of the call, I over ran by 10 minutes at the end, I spoke too fast towards the end as I was trying cram in all the content and forgot to mention some stuff I’d planned to cover) – all of which began to make me feel a little ‘flat’ and, in that split second, decide that I didn’t want to deliver any further teleclasses I have planned.
I realised it was completely irrational and hit the pause button quickly so that I could walk my talk and follow the same 5 steps I ask my clients to follow after an interview:

Interviews, Job Searching

So you’ve been out of work for a while now and are struggling to find the right role at the right level.
You decide to be flexible and start applying for roles with less pay and with less responsibility to start earning and get back into the market. Seems sensible.
But then you keep getting asked that annoying question: “Are you not overqualified for this role..? Will you not be off as soon as the market picks up?”
So how do you handle such a question?
Click here to see a useful list of sample answers to this question from career columnist, Joyce Lain Kennedy. Not all the suggestions will apply to you. Not all will suit your style. But they should stimulate some ideas and help you come up with a credible response.

”To be prepared is half the victory” - Miguel De Cervantes
A large part of your success at job interviews comes down to the ammount and type of preparation you do. In particular, preparing yourself for the types of questions you’re likely to be asked.
Below are 17 questions you must be able to answer prior to attending most types of interviews. This is NOT a definite guide to interview questions (there’s no such thing) – but instead a set of core questions that makes you go through a thought process before attending interviews.
If you can answer these questions for yourself, it allows you to answer most types of non technical questions in most interviews (by non technical, I mean questions related to your functional area – eg Sales, Accounting etc).
The 17 Questions:

I received a call today from a Financial Controller who had been invited to a final interview with the UK Finance Director (FD) of a major insurance group.
His question;-
“So what do I ask the Group FD? The rest of the team have answered all my questions and I am completely sold on them. Do I just ask him questions about career progression and what roles he sees opening up for me?”
My response was:
